  • Tim told Alex he never wanted to see her again.
  • Here’s a recap of what happened, and what they’ve both said about the breakup since filming.

“Love Is Blind” season seven is almost at its end. With only one episode left, couples have been dropping like flies.

That includes Alex and Tim, who called it quits after another tense argument — this one over Alex taking a nap at an inopportune time.

Alex, a 33-year-old fashion producer, and Tim, a 33-year-old web content strategist, were one of seven couples to get engaged in the Washington, DC, season of the wildly successful Netflix series.

The series has been watched for hundreds of millions of hours in 2023 and the first half of 2024, according to Netflix engagement reports. And with all those views come millions of viewers’ opinions on each couple’s every move. In Alex and Tim’s case, viewers on social media are currently debating their contentious breakup.

Here’s a recap of their relationship and what both parties have said about its demise in the time since filming “Love Is Blind.”

Alex and Tim hit it off in the pods but experienced some difficulties in Mexico

Before meeting face-to-face, Alex and Tim bonded over how their parents’ relationships influenced their own views of marriage. In episode one, Tim opens up about the death of his two older sisters, and Alex tells him that both her parents were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system.

On a date in episode four, Tim gives Alex a bracelet that his oldest sister had given his middle sister with the inscription, “Love eternal, sis.”

“Unfortunately, you don’t have the opportunity to meet the two people that will be your sisters, but everything I know about them and everything I know about you, I know that they love you,” he tells her.

Tim proposes to Alex in episode four, and she accepts. After finally meeting face-to-face during their reveal, they travel to Mexico with five other couples in episode five.

While things initially appear to be going well, aside from some light roasting, they encounter difficulties on that vacation. The two have an off-screen argument and deal with the aftermath in episode six after a party where they meet the other couples.

During their discussion after the off-screen fight, Alex says that her behavior was caused by homesickness, but she didn’t feel like discussing it. Tim says that he felt “shunned” and “disrespected,” and Alex says that she covered his mouth during an argument but felt “belittled.”

“I love you. You have a ring on your finger,” Tim tells Alex. “But at a certain point, I have to have some respect for myself too. I have to figure out how to get in a good space and place again to where I can see you as my wife, the mother of my children.”

At the end of the discussion, Tim says that he’s not sure if he’s ready for them to sleep in the same room again, though Alex asks for him to return. Ultimately, they patch things up and stay together.

Tim broke things off when Alex takes a nap after meeting his parents

Back in DC, things go smoothly at first, except for relatively minor issues, like Alex’s disappointment that Tim doesn’t like to cuddle and Tim’s surprise at seeing Alex’s extremely messy apartment.

But more importantly, Alex and Tim meet each other’s families. Alex doesn’t want to tell her parents that they’re already engaged, so she tells Tim to formally ask her father for Alex’s hand in marriage first.

Tim wins over Alex’s hesitant parents and brothers by cooking for them in episode eight, and gives Alex’s dad a heartfelt speech about how much he loves Alex. Her dad tears up and gives Tim his blessing. Alex’s mom confirms she has “no concerns” about Tim.

Things also appear to go well with Tim’s parents when Alex meets them in episode 10, and they support the relationship. But later in that episode, Tim confronts Alex over a perceived slight: She took a nap after the meeting with his parents, who drove 10 hours to come to meet Alex.

The conversation is tense, similar to their argument in Mexico. Alex defends herself and says if she realized how important it was for her to be present after filming, she would have stayed up, while Tim feels that Alex’s actions were “not okay.” He also claims that he’d been trying to contact her all day the day before, and that she was asleep for most of the day (Alex counters that she only napped for an hour).

In turn, Alex is frustrated that Tim didn’t communicate his issues with her at the time. She says that their bond isn’t the same as it was in the pods. But Alex’s perceived lack of responsiveness when Tim was trying to reach her is a major dealbreaker for him, and he calls off their engagement.

“After reflecting on what I really want out of life and a wife, I have to be honest with myself, that the answer between you and I, for me, is no,” Tim tells Alex, who’s visibly taken aback. She slams him for breaking up with her only two days after asking her dad for her hand in marriage but accepts his decision without trying to convince him otherwise.

“There is no scenario that I see myself standing there and saying yes to making you my wife forever,” Tim says.

Most shockingly, Tim tells Alex that he never wants to see her again. They go their separate ways and don’t interact at all at the cast party later in episode 10, which they both attend.

Alex and Tim seem poised for a big confrontation at the ‘Love Is Blind’ reunion

While Alex and Tim followed one another on Instagram earlier as the season was airing, they no longer do. They’ve also both addressed the breakup on social media and in interviews since the episode aired on Wednesday.

On her Instagram Story, Alex has reshared lots of viewers’ posts defending her love of naps and declaring themselves #TeamAlex. She has also cryptically said she can’t wait for October 30 — the date the reunion will be airing.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Tim thanked fans for their support. Of the breakup, he wrote that he knows “when to remove something that is a negative presence in my life.”

“When love, authenticity and respect are consistently met with lack of effort, constant antagonizing and lack of respect for your physical and mental space, it must be met with firm and unmistakable terms,” Tim continued in the post.

Tim added that details were left out of his and Alex’s story. He alleges that the two had many more arguments than were shown and that he did his best to have them off-camera. He writes that after those conversations, he made the decision to cut off “what felt like a toxic situation where I was being manipulated and given no serious effort from my partner.” He also said he believed that if their genders were switched, the conversation around their story would be different.

Tim concluded his post by confirming that he and Alex were no longer on good terms and that he hadn’t been looking forward to reliving this. “I hate that my attempt to find love ended in a situation where I can’t even be friendly with a person I used to love because we live in what feels like two different realities,” he wrote.

He also defended himself in replies to comments on his post, specifically regarding criticism of him telling Alex he never wanted to speak to her again.

Alex, for her part, opened up about the breakup in a conversation with Today. She said that she and Tim ultimately just weren’t compatible on many levels, and confirmed they haven’t spoken since the breakup conversation.

“No, I never reached out to him because if you say you never want to speak to me again, I’m going to give you what you want,” she said. “He has not reached out to me and he’s not blocked.”

She also said she was thrown off by the breakup because the two had been making plans earlier that day for the rest of the week. And no, her dad didn’t take the news well.

“He was truly devastated. To this day, he does not like Tim,” Alex said, also revealing that her dad kept the letter Tim read him and still rereads it wondering if it was all a lie.

She said that she really believed they’d make it to the altar. “In my previous relationship, couples are going to argue, they’re not going to see eye to eye on everything,” she said. “So I didn’t really think our issues would ever be too big to not go the whole way.”

The “Love Is Blind” season seven finale will air on Wednesday, October 23, and the reunion will air on Wednesday, October 30 on Netflix.
