  • I ordered a strip steak and a Caesar salad at STK and Capital Grille to compare the chains.
  • STK served one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, but the meal there was twice as expensive.
  • The Caesar salad at Capital Grille was excellent, but I really wasn’t impressed by its steak.

Both STK Steakhouse, which has 20 locations in the US and a few more overseas, and Capital Grille, which has over 70 locations across the States, Mexico, and Costa Rica, have much to offer their diners.

The former has a more modern, chic feel with large open dining rooms, contrasting white and black design features, and interesting plating choices. All of these things rang true at its Midtown Manhattan restaurant.

Capital Grille locations, on the other hand, have a more old-fashioned luxury feel. The Garden City location had deep-red leather booths, a thick crimson and gold carpet, and taxidermized animal heads on the paneled walls.

I ordered the same lunch at STK and Capital Grille to see which high-end steak-house chain offered the best food and value.
